Manfrotto talks to… Slummy Single Mummy

We were lucky enough recently to interview award-winning blogger Slummy Single Mummy, to find out a bit about what makes her tick blog-wise, and discover some of the wonderful things that make her world go round. We asked her to submit a selection of her recent favourite images from her blog and received a gorgeous mix of lifestyle pictures, which we think perfectly capture the feel of her honest, funny and often very touching blog.

‘I’m Jo and I am a single, work-at-home mother to two gorgeous, spirited girls. Bee is 16 and Belle is nine. Bee was born when I was 17, and by 19, I was a single parent for the first time.

I became a single mum for the second time in 2008. It is hard work, harder now than at 19, but I manage to juggle family, work and home commitments by pretending I don’t notice how dirty the house is.’

What is your blog about?

My blog is about all sorts of things, from parenting to relationships, with a dash of fashion, and even the odd recipe.

How would you describe your blogging style?

I try to be entertaining, whether that be with a bit of tongue-in-cheek humour, or something more serious. If a post makes someone stop and think, or laugh out loud, that makes me happy.

What do you do when you aren’t working on your blog?

I’m a copywriter and marketer, and write for a whole range of businesses. Variety is the spice of life, after all.

What’s inspired you recently?

The sunshine!

Name three things you love about your life:

After recently moving to Bristol, I now love my house and my city. I love the flexibility of my work, and I love the stage my children are at now, where they are more independent, and great company. It really feels like I’m in a good place in my life right now.

How do you relax?

I love reading, going to the cinema, and watching comfort TV like ‘Country House Rescue’ and ‘Miss Marple’.

What is your favourite place in the world?

My bed.

What is your favourite post that you’ve done and why?

It’s really hard to think of a favourite. One of my most popular posts, and one that is special to me, is the diary I wrote of the birth of my first daughter [link to http://slummysinglemummy.wordpress.com/2010/02/10/it-was-all-so-lush-how-it-really-feels-to-give-birth-at-17-years-old/ ], when I was 17.

Who are some bloggers whom you look up to and get inspiration from?

I don’t honestly get time to read a lot of other blogs. *Hangs head in shame.* I like things that make me laugh though, like ‘Mommy Has A Headache’ and ‘Mr Shev’. Sometimes I read Will Wheaton’s blog too.
