Useful studio items

Sascha Basmer is a passionate photographer who loves to explore the world around him through the viewfinder of his camera. “Photography has many facets and gives me as a photographer plenty of opportunities to be creative. Combined with subsequent image processing, there are virtually no limits when it comes to creating unforgettable pictures.”

When thinking of a photo studio, the first thing that comes to mind is probably a well-equipped flash unit with different lightshapers and various backgrounds on the wall. However, there are a few other items that shouldn’t be missing from a studio in order to make sure one’s images don’t always look the same.

For instance, it’s useful to have various kinds of seating for the model available at the studio, such as a bar stool or a ceremonial chair. Loop curtains in different colours, or frosted glass panels are perfectly suited for allowing greater variation with images and models. A wind machine (or a strong fan) to make clothes or hair flutter in the wind should also be part of every studio.

To arrange the lighting set-up without having to book extra model time, one would be well-advised to have a mannequin or a similar tool at hand. This is also great to experiment with lighting set-ups before the model arrives at the studio. Reflectors, light shields, and also a couple of towels should be available at every studio. Accessories such as hats, scarves, and costume jewellery can also be very useful.
