Photographs, nature and I

Photographs as expression

“Photographs have three main functions: memory, communication and expression.”
It forms part of the vague memories of my freshman year. When I first heard it, my response was a kind of nonchalant “..right, that makes sense…,” but nonetheless, the words seem to have stuck in the back of my mind.
How about a taste of some expressive photography?
The basic theme running through my photographs is the relationship between nature and people.
The photos I am showcasing today are part of my graduation work “Symbiosis and erosion” -some extracts.

Below you will find some notes I found from the time I was creating the work. If these start you thinking, that would be the source of some happiness for me.
It’s the same kind of feeling of relief you get when you set foot in the forest and find yourself intimate with towering cedars, as though you were in maternal embrace. Whether with the trees in the forest, the ocean waters, the clouds in the sky, I am talking here about the relationship with all non-human life forms. Mind-bogglingly long ago, when the earth was created and life breathed into a huge variety of living things, people were created almost incidentally. You usually read about this kind of scene in books; however, in reality it is still rooted very deep within us. We tend to forget about this time; in reality, me and you, he and she, and in the end everyone, is part of nature, so this bears consideration.
