Travel Photography: Connecting through Photos in a Foreign Land

Photographs as a form of communication.

Wherever I go, I always end up wanting to take photos of children I see there.
There are plenty of chances for great photos of children in Uganda. They come up to you with smiling faces giggling, flashing their pearly teeth.

After taking their photos, I usually show them, which always evokes lots of general excitement. They usually then jump into plain sight of the viewfinder making all kinds of faces. The joy in making faces is common to children everywhere, and it always ends up stimulating me to take even more photos.

However the photos I most like to take are photos of everyday life.
For such photos, as well as for photos that show what kind of trip it is generally, people in natural posture is best, and you need to hang around the scene a bit to get that.

Wherever I go, I always end up wanting to take photos of children I see. There are plenty of chances to take photos of children in Uganda. They come up to you with giggling faces, flashing their fines sets of teeth.
Chasing each other, rolling around and babbling…you get the feeling of time well enjoyed passing by slowly.

With most children, it’s a one time meeting, however, if possible, I send them their photos. When I hear of their parents’ elation at seeing the photos, the photos become more than just travel photos for your own enjoyment, but a method of communication.

When I see the photos, I hope also that when the children see them, they will remember me, the foreigner who showed up so unexpectedly.
