1 car, 4 friends and more than 3000 km in 14 days from Helsinki to Nuorgamintie and back.
Smiles, laughter, hugs and moody moments, but when you’re with the right people, you can feel at home anywhere in the world and I really felt at home in Finland…
If I was to think of the scents to describe this amazing country, I would immediately think of cinnamon, of the delicious freshly baked korvapuustit (cinnamon rolls) I used to have for breakfast.
And then I would think of the pouring rain and of the wild breeze in the woods, of the scent of wild berries and wildflowers. And of course, the scent of lakes and rivers…
Finland for me has the scent of freedom!
There is a lot of things I’ve learned during this trip, here’s a few I really loved:
– Berry-picking is a part of cultural significance.
– Forests symbolize paradise for Finns.
– Jokamiehenoikeus (Everyman’s Right in English), is a traditional legal concept that enables everyone to roam freely in Finnish nature, and enjoy the outdoors and the offerings of forests and marshes.
We woke up to foggy moody mornings, basked in sunlight and took in the fresh breeze, often ending with memorable sunsets as our adventure saw us experience so many different aspects to this beautiful part of the world.
Manfrotto Compact Xtreme was with me at all times of each day and it was the perfect travel companion, allowing me to bring many moments to life that otherwise would have not been possible.
Matilde Minauro is a photographer based in Florence, Italy. Introduced to photography through the work and influence of her grandfather, she owned her first camera at age 8. Her studies in architecture influence her photographic style significantly, and this is evident in her use of lines and light as expressive languages. The atmosphere of her work is notably dreamlike, melancholic and quiet with consistently diluted and rarefied tones to define an intimate and profound space. Her portfolio is a secret corner of interiority, a collection of quiet poems that tell a story of almost impalpable sensations that words fail to express… A story that only light can delicately paint in every detail.
